How this usually comes up
Almost nobody calls to say they want a new drinking fountain. They call because the old one is leaking, and then a better question surfaces: is anyone actually using it?

The original fountain in the gym was leaking. Rather than replace it like for like, they went with an Elkay bi-level unit with a bottle filler and a filter.
The gym is used for pickleball and people needed to fill bottles rather than bend over a spout. The filter was their idea.
That is the whole case for stopping to think about it. A like-for-like replacement would have given them a working version of a fixture nobody was using. What they have now gets used constantly, because it matches how people actually drink water in a gym — from a bottle they are carrying.
Bi-level, and why it matters
A bi-level unit has two bowls at different heights on one fixture. One is at a height a wheelchair user can reach and use; one is at standing height.
That is not a nice-to-have in a church, a school or a public-facing building. It is the difference between a fountain everyone can use and a fountain most people can use. If you are replacing an old single-height unit, going bi-level is usually the right call and rarely a large part of the cost difference.
The bottle filler is the part people notice
A bottle filler is a spout above the bowl that fills a water bottle without you tipping it or holding a button awkwardly. Most units count how many disposable bottles it has saved, which people like more than you would expect.
Where it changes behaviour most:
- Gyms and sports halls — everyone has a bottle already
- Schools — kids carry bottles, and refills reduce trips out of class
- Churches — particularly buildings hosting sports, youth groups or events
- Offices — replaces the bottled water cooler and its delivery contract
Filters
Most bottle filler units take a filter cartridge. Whether it is worth it depends on your water and your building, and we are not going to make a health claim to sell you one.
What a filter typically improves is taste and clarity. If people in your building already avoid the tap water because of how it tastes, a filter is likely to change that. If nobody has ever mentioned it, you may not need one. Filters do need replacing on a schedule, so it is a small ongoing commitment rather than a one-off.

What the install involves
- Looking at what is there. Existing supply and drain, how the old unit is mounted, and whether the wall behind it will carry the new one.
- Deciding on location. Reusing the existing position is simplest. Moving it means new supply and drain work, and we price that up front rather than discovering it on the day.
- Removing the old unit and dealing with whatever the leak did to the wall behind it.
- Supply, drain and mounting for the new unit, with isolation so it can be serviced later without shutting off a section of the building.
- Fitting and testing, including the filter if there is one.
Scheduling around a building in use
Churches, schools and gyms all have times when this work is disruptive and times when it is invisible. Tell us your schedule and we will work to it. For a church that usually means not a Sunday; for a school it usually means a holiday or after hours.

Common questions
What is a bi-level drinking fountain?
Two bowls at different heights on one unit, so it works for a wheelchair user and a standing adult. That configuration is what makes a fountain usable by everyone rather than only most people, and it is the standard we install.
Can you add a bottle filler to what we already have?
Sometimes, but often the sensible move is replacing the unit rather than adapting an old one - particularly if the existing fountain is already leaking, which is what usually prompts the call. We will tell you which situation you are in before you spend anything.
Do we need a filter?
You do not need one, and whether it is worth it depends on your water and your building. On a church gym install the filter was the customer's idea, not ours. If you want one we will fit it; if you are unsure we will tell you what it does and does not change.
Who is this for?
Churches, schools, gyms, offices and any building where people need water and the old fountain is failing or nobody uses it. The bottle filler is usually what changes the picture - people will fill a bottle who would never bend over a spout.
Do you install the plumbing or just the fixture?
Both. The supply, the drain, the mounting and the unit itself, done under Master Plumber License MPL 38224. If the location is changing from where the old fountain sat, that is supply and drain work, and we will price it as part of the job rather than discovering it on the day.
