Toilet Replacement & Installation

New toilets set on a sound flange with new bolts, and checked for leaks before we leave. American Standard, Gerber, TOTO and smart toilets — or the one you already bought.

MVP Plumbing replaces and installs toilets across Baytown, Mont Belvieu and the surrounding area. We install American Standard, Gerber and TOTO, a generic brand, and smart toilets — and if you have already bought a toilet, we will install that. Licensed master plumber, MPL 38224. The toilet is the easy part. What decides whether it is still sealed in five years is what it sits on, and that is where most of the work on this page is.

What does a toilet replacement include?

  • The flange checked once the old toilet is off, and replaced if it is cracked or broken. In a slab house the replacement goes back as stainless, anchored into the concrete.
  • A new wax ring and new closet bolts.
  • New tank bolts and gasket where a two-piece tank goes on. Brass, because the originals are what corrode and seize.
  • Set, caulked and checked for leaks before we leave.

Should I repair my toilet or replace it?

It depends on what is wrong and how old the rest of it is, and we will give you the options rather than assume you want a new one.

Job notes · Mont Belvieu — toilet tank rebuild

Leaking flapper. We gave three prices: replace the flapper, rebuild the whole tank, or install a new toilet. They chose the full rebuild, because every part in that tank was the same age as the flapper. New gasket, new brass bolts, all internals.

Same logic as two water heaters in an attic: replace one part and you are back for the next one. But a rebuild is still not a new toilet, and if the tank and bowl are sound there is no reason to buy one.

Replacing makes more sense when the china itself is cracked, when the toilet keeps needing parts, or when a remodel is happening anyway. If you are not sure, ask — we will tell you which we would pick.

Why does my toilet rock or leak at the base?

Usually not because of the toilet. The two things underneath it are the wax ring and the closet flange, and either one can be why it moves or why water shows up around the base.

Job notes · Mont Belvieu — toilet flange

Customer noticed the toilet rocking. We pulled it and found the plastic flange broken. Slab house, so we went back with a stainless flange anchored into the concrete. They had caught it early — no water damage, nothing else to repair.

Job notes · Dayton — leaking toilet reset on a new flange

A toilet leaking at the floor. We pulled the toilet, replaced the closet flange, and set it back down on a new wax ring with new closet bolts and new tank bolts. Caulked around the base and checked it for leaks before leaving.

A new wax ring set on a bad flange is a repair that fails again inside a year. Going back with another plastic flange just resets the clock — plastic is what broke in the first place.

Worth dealing with early. A toilet that rocks slightly or weeps at the base is a small job right up until the water has been under the flooring long enough to reach the subfloor.

Can you replace several toilets at once?

Job notes · Highlands — drain lines and two new toilets

A pier-and-beam house going onto a new septic system. The owners wanted all the drain lines replaced at the same time so they would not have to think about drainage again. We replaced the lot and installed two new toilets.

The toilets went in at the same time because the drains were open anyway. When other work has the floor or the lines open, that is the cheapest moment to change a toilet. See plumbing in Highlands.

Do you install smart toilets?

Yes. Many smart toilets need power at the toilet, so tell us the model when you call and we will tell you what the install involves before we come out.

What about commercial toilets?

A commercial toilet that runs constantly almost never needs replacing. A flushometer is built to be rebuilt, and we carry the rebuild kits, so it is usually fixed on the first visit — about half an hour and a kit, not a new fixture. See fixtures, valves and toilets and commercial plumbing.

Common questions

Do you install a toilet I bought myself?

Yes. If you have already bought a toilet, we will install it. We also install American Standard, Gerber, TOTO, a generic brand and smart toilets.

Should I repair my toilet or replace it?

It depends on what is wrong and how old the rest of it is. On a Mont Belvieu job with a leaking flapper we gave three prices - the flapper, a full tank rebuild, or a new toilet - and the customer chose the rebuild because every part in the tank was the same age. We give you the options and tell you which we would pick.

Why is there water around the base of my toilet?

Usually it is the wax ring or the flange underneath rather than the toilet itself. A new wax ring set on a bad flange is a repair that fails again inside a year, so when the flange has gone, the flange gets replaced.

My toilet rocks. Is that serious?

A rocking toilet is a flange problem, and sorted early it is a straightforward job. Left alone you are paying for water damage as well. In a slab house we go back with a stainless flange anchored into the concrete, because another plastic flange just resets the clock.

Do you install smart toilets?

Yes. Many need power at the toilet, so tell us the model when you call and we will tell you what the install involves before we come out.

Can you replace more than one toilet at once?

Yes. On a Highlands job we replaced all the drain lines under a pier-and-beam house and set two new toilets at the same time, because the drains were open anyway.
